Haroldo Silva emerged victorious from the 888Live São Paulo Main Event, after keeping a low profile for most of the third, and final, day of the event. He outlasted the entire players field to be finally crowned as the winner of the tournament’s Main Event and take home a monetary prize pool portion of R$200,000.
This year’s 888Live Festival in São Paulo offered six days of qualitative poker experience thanks to a number of tournaments. The 888Live São Paulo Main Event took place between September 6th and 11th at the Casa Bossa – Shopping Cidade Jardim in Brazil, featuring a buy-in of R$1,300 as well as a pool prize of R$1,000,000. The Main Event also offered six starting flights in four days, which gathered a massive players field of a total of 757 entrants.
888Live São Paulo Main Event
Over the first day of the event there were a total of 44 entries, with only 13 of them making it to day 2. Day 1B and 1C saw an overall number of 116 new entries who came in, bringing the total player field to 160. At the end of Day 1B there were 21 remaining survivors, while only 10 players came out of Day 1C. Day 1E saw 188 players gather for the Main Event, with 99 of them surviving the day and proceeding to Day 2.
At the end of the second day of the 888Live São Paulo Main Event, there were only 27 players left, with the 18-year-old Guilherme Cazula holding the chip lead with a stake of 1,706,000 in chips. Cazula’s lead, however, was questioned by Haroldo Silva over the third and final day of the Main Event, and eventually, lost.
As mentioned above, Silva preferred to stay mostly quiet over the third day, avoiding big pots and not talking much with other players. However, as soon as he reached the final table of the event, the player made it clear that the battle for the Main Event’s title would not be easy.
Despite the fact that the action slowed down a bit over the third day of the event, there were a few big pots from time to time. Apart from Guilherme Cazula who entered the final day as a chip leader, Mauro Tabarin and Daniel Aziz were the other two players who exchanged the chip lead, with all three of them getting to the final table.
Silva, however, was not to give in. after founding himself holding the shortest stack at the time when there were only five players left around the final table, he managed to pull himself together and resisted the competition to finally win the event after a direct heads-up battle with the 18-year-old Cazula.
Final Table Ranking
With Haroldo Silva occupying the first place in the ranking and winning a prize of R$200,000 as well as the Breitling winner’s watch and a $13,000 WSOPE package, Guilherme Cazula took the runner-up position. The latter was granted for his efforts with a prize pool portion estimated to R$125,000. Emanuel Fernandez remained third, scooping a monetary prize pool portion of R$82,000.
The fourth place in the ranking was occupied by Daniel Aziz, followed by Mauro Tabarin who got fifth. The sixth position was taken by Junior Viana, while Valcir Mello got seventh. Luis Lima and Patricia Alencar took the last two positions at the final table ranking, becoming eighth and ninth, respectively.
